Welcome to Inverness – the
capital city of the highlands where you’ll
always find the warmest of welcomes – whether
you choose to visit, explore, shop,
relax – or really ‘live’
Inverness.
Inverness is an exceptional place
– the real ‘in’ place to be –
a busy, modern, vibrant city with a real buzz.
Looking for the perfect destination for short breaks
and holidays in the highlands? – look no
further. Stroll along the
River Ness and through the
Ness Islands. With its suspension bridges across
the
River Ness and old stone buildings, it is a
pretty place which is well-known for its floral
displays (frequently a winner of awards in the Bloom
of Britain competitions). In December 2000, it was
one of only 3 towns to be awarded city status by the
Queen.
Eden Court Theatre,
situated near the cathedral,
is the venue for shows, music and cinema. Originally
built in the 1970s, the building incorporates part of
the old Bishop's Palace and is said to be haunted by
the 'Green Lady' ghost of a wife of one of the
bishop's who hanged herself there.
Discover Culloden
and it's new award
winning NTS visitor centre. Cruise
Loch Ness and try to
spot the monster Nessie, fantastic
scenery and Highland glens, lochs and mountains.
Enjoy cruises and tours, dolphin
spotting trips, visitor attractions, restaurants
and shops. Visit the beautiful west coast, the
Cairngorm National
Park, the Isle of
Skye, Orkney and Royal Deeside.
Explore castles, Stone Age ruins,
Pictish standing stones and circles,
Whisky
trails distilleries, wild life, gardens, forests
and quiet beaches.
And vibrant Inverness has an
ever-increasing number of restaurants, pubs and cafes
offering food from around the globe –
Chinese,
Indian,
French, Italian,
Spanish,
Irish etc. and
even Scottish, while the
new Eastgate
shopping development houses many multiple chain
shops. The older part of the town is where the
smaller, individually
owned shops are to be found.
